In many countries it has long been the tradition to hold an annual tree or forest festival. The origin of such celebrations dates back to antiquity and is in the dawn of religious feeling and awe for what trees represented. However, Arbor Day, as it is commonly known today, is of American origin and evolved from conditions peculiar to the at Plains. It was first observed in Nebraska in 1872.

My Home Town
My home town is a beautiful place. It stands beside a wide river and is rich in fish and rice.

In 1949 my hometown was liberated. Since then great changes have taken place there. The streets have been widened. Factories, schools, hospitals, cinemas and theatres have sprung up one after another. The life of the people is greatly improved.
I love my hometown. All the more I love its people. They are working hard so as to make it still richer and more beautiful.

When I bury my head into the book, the special fragrance of the book slips through my fingers, into my nose, then into my brain. How marvelous the feeling is! Secondly, I can take various notes on the book as long as I want to, which is not that easy to do when reading online. When I have finished reading the book, what I harvest will be not only the knowledge and idea the book conveys, but also my systematic thinking about the book, which can be vividly embodied by my notes on the book. Thirdly, paper reading won’t be distracted easily by irrelevant information which often emerges in online reading.

Laptop computers are popular all over the world. People use them everywhere. They connect people to their work place. In the United States today,laptops also connect students to their classrooms.
Westlake College in Virginia will start a laptop computer program allowing students to study schoolwork anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the ] 5OO students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are a part of a $10million computer program at Westlake. Students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition, they will be able to use e-mail to "speak" with their teachers,classmates, or families. However, the most important part of the program is that students will be able to use computers without going to computer labs. They can work with it anywhere they like!
Because of the many changes in computer technology,laptop use in higher education is workable. As laptops become more powerful, they become more similar to desktop computers. In addition, portable computers can connect students to not only the Internet, but also libraries and other resources. State higher-education officials are studying how laptops can help students.
At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff uses the computers. The laptops will allow all teachers to use computers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said,"Here we are in the middle of Virginia and we're giving students a window on the world. They can see everything and
